Gilleleje is a fishing town and vacation destination located at the far north of Zealand, in Denmark. It's about an hour away from Copenhagen and is accessible by car or train. It has approximately 5,000 residents and a very interesting history - especially during WWII, where thousands of Jewish people from Denmark were ferried safely across to Sweden.
Will you ever celebrate in the US?
Would we ever miss an excuse to party?! While we'd love to see you in August, we'll also have a small get together near Anne's hometown of Arlington, SD, likely coinciding with Hobo Day 2025 - exact details TBD.
Are kids invited?
We would absolutely love to celebrate with your offspring. They are welcome to join the ceremony and cocktail hour, where we'll have yard games, snacks, and drinks just for them. We do ask, however, that kiddos head out when it's time to eat dinner - their parents deserve a chance to party!
If you're coming in from out of town, or have a hard time finding childcare, just let Anne or Michael know - we can help find a suitable sitter.
Would you like gifts?
We are honored by the gift of the time and travel you're taking to come celebrate with us - not just saying this, it's a huge deal! Showing up and having a good time is all we can ask. If you can't come, it would be so special if you could take 30 seconds to record your well wishes to text to us.
If you simply INSIST upon a gift, we would be touched by a contribution to our honeymoon fund. We are planning a one-month adventure throughout Southeast Asia in September.
What do I need to know about Danish weddings?
Get ready for a good time!
Toasts: Not just for the wedding party! Anyone who wants to can chip in with a well-wish, or get even more creative with a song, dance, little skit. etc. The Toastmasters extraordinaire (Kristi and Flemming) will keep things moving and fun.
Traditions: The goom's sock will be cut (still don't know why) and a line will form if the bride or groom leaves the table during dinner - so jump right in to plant a kiss on their cheek if so inclined.
If anything seems weird, blame the Caspersens!
What do I need to know about American weddings?
Also get ready for a good time!
During dinner, clinking your silverware against your glass will get a kiss out of the happy couple and everyone will get a turn with the bride and groom out on the dance floor.
Anything else seem weird? Blame the Jensens or the Dykstras
